Why I made a plain HTML site

The modern website (and software in general) has become in my opinion, bloated. Almost every site has complex formatting, a lot of java-script as well as a cancerous amount of ads. This results in an overly complex page that uses more RAM than my OS. Sometimes this is being put to good use, the modern web browser can replace dedicated apps on many platforms, EX Google Docs. I have privacy and ownership concerns about this but, from a technical stand point it is impressive. While not common, people have even run complex games and emulated operating systems.

However, I often go to news sites or blog posts, etc, where I only want to read a small block of text, I am frustrated by these overly complex sites, all this complexity only interferes with what I am trying to do.

Just because we can doesn’t mean we should or have to. I fact I would say we should not if we don’t have a good reason

So this site is the opposite extreme to make a statement. A few static logos and some CSS would make a nicer but still snappy site with little “bloat”. However by sticking to the simplest HTML I prove that I can still clearly communicate without any “modern” features.

A modern PC can render huge sites quickly and most (but not all!) people have fast internet. We can afford to be this inefficient, but I don’t think being able to get away it for now is a good reason to make a mess. We should do things simply and efficiently if we reasonably can. This goes beyond just websites and browsers, most technology increasing suffers from these issues.
